Ensuring Drinking Water for All

Little Big Feature: Neejan Shrestha

Earlier this week, we received the following update from one of our 2020 Little Big Believer, Neejan Shrestha from Nepal. Enjoy the update on their most recent project supported by Little Big Fund:

Bhangeta Drinking Water Supply Scheme (DWSS) is the joint initiation of Wine to Water Nepal, Madi Municipality ward no 1, and Bhangeta Water User and Sanitation Committee that caters to the drinking water and sanitation need of a total of 97 households. The technology like the deep boring, solar system, gravity piped system, treatment, and overhead water tank, and yard connection along with the point of filtration system will ensure access to quality and safe drinking water to 457 population of the community.

Amidst the chaos and fear of COVID-19, the Community WASH project is progressing well as, according to our detailed estimate, RVT 20 cum of 2 nos has completed. Mainline and distribution pipeline connection along with pumping work has also completed. Among 102 taps 98 tap construction and 45 taps yard connection are also completed. In spite of the various constraints due to the pandemic, the drinking water supply scheme will be completed by the end of June.

Upon the completion of the project, the people of Bhanegta will be provided with water at their doorsteps. Point of use filtration system will be provided with the funding from Little Big Fund and villagers will be trained for the point of use filtration and storage of clean drinking water. Access to safe and clean drinking water will have a positive impact in the community as it will contribute towards saving time required to fetch water, agricultural benefits, increased number of student attendance in school, local-level job creation, improved level of awareness regarding maintenance of sanitation, and hygiene at the community level and the community is overjoyed with the water project. Women have been showcasing active participation in the drinking water project and are confident of getting safe drinking water considering the sustainability of the project. Women also believe that water will bring life-changing impact and opportunities in their life and in their community.
